WHAT IS CHILD ABUSE?
which includes penile, digital, and object penetration of the vagina, mouth or anus; exposing children to adult sexual activity or pornographic movies and photographs; making lewd comments about the child’s body; having children pose, undress or perform in a sexual fashion on film or in person (exhibitionism); ‘peeping’ into bathroom or bedrooms to spy on a child.
Child abuse is when a parent or caregiver,whether through action or failing to act, causes injury, death, emotional harm or risk of serious harm to a child. There are many forms of child maltreatment, including, neglect, physical abuse,exploitation and emotional abuse.
Acts of child sexual abuse are committed by both adult males and females. Child sexual abuse can be physical, verbal or emotional and includes:
touching and fondling of the sexual portions of the child’s body (genitals and anus) or touching the breasts of pubescent females, or the child’s touching the sexual portions of a partner’s body; sexual kissing; penetration,
SOME SIGNS TO LOOK FOR
Signs can be sometimes hard to look for, because children often get cuts and bruises, which can sometimes be normal. But there are specific signs to look for and trust your gut as you look at the picture of the child’s physical and emotional health.
TWO SIGNS OF PHYSICAL ABUSE.
- Shake or throws the child.
- Hits, kicks or bites.
TWO SIGNS OF SEXUAL ABUSE.
- Forces a child o take part in pornographic pictures pictures or videos.
- Shows the child someone else’s genitals, as with “flashing”
EMOTIONAL ABUSE: is a pattern of behaviors that harm a child’s emotional well-being and development. This can mean when someone:
- Abuses others when the child is around, such as a parent, brother, sister or pet.
- Ignores the child and doesn’t give emotional support and guidance.
